National Coming Out Day

Pois é, hoje aqui nos Estados Unidos é o dia nacional de sair do armário. Isso mesmo. Os americanos têm um dia (11 de outubro) de conscientização e discussão sobre questões de gays, lésbicas, bisexuais e transexuais.

Todos os alunos aqui da escola receberam uma mensagem (parcialmente copiada abaixo) explicando o National Coming Out Day. E também receberam um adesivo para, se quiserem, demonstrar apoio. Achei muito legal.

Fiquei pensando que no Brasil ainda somos muito preconceituosos e hipócritas com questões como essa e que, talvez, um dia nacional de sair do armário até que seria interessante...

Why don’t lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people come “out of the closet”?


Sometimes people aren’t sure about their sexuality, sometimes they aren’t comfortable being honest about their sexuality, and sometimes they don’t have the support of their friends and families. We might not be able to change the first two, but we can change the last.


Tomorrow (Monday, Oct. 11th) Tuck will celebrate National Coming Out Day, when the LGBT community can show some effort, the reluctant among us may gain some courage, and the rest of us will have an opportunity to demonstrate support for our fellow LGBT classmates. Tomorrow we will honor the hard lessons we’ve learned over the last 20 years -- that “Silence=Death” and “Closets are for Clothes.”
